Better Bridge with Bernard Magee 2015 Series – Forty years ago, duplicate pairs was in its infancy and you needed 13 HCP to open the bidding and rarely competed for a partscore. Now the norm is to open with 11 HCP and compete for every hand. The reason is largely because of the scoring system. -50 and -100 can score very well, when your opponents can make a contract of their own.
