A phrase used in rubber bridge to identify scores entered below the horizontal line on the scoresheet. These are the trick scores for contracts bid and made. Only the scores below the line count towards making game. For example, if you bid 2♠ and make 9 tricks, while holding the ♠K-Q-J-10 in one hand, the only score to go below the line is 60. The 30 for the overtrick and the 100 for honours go above the line and do not count towards game.
