1. This is a card combination that prevents the opposition from running a suit – the same as a stopper but generally used when referring to a defender.
2. A small card held with an honour to ensure that the honour does not fall under higher honours eg with K-2, the two is a guard to the king: if one had to discard the two, the king would become unguarded.
