DUPLICATE BRIDGE

A form of bridge in which different players play the same deal. This eliminates the luck of the deal since players’ scores compare with the other results on each board.

The first application of the duplicate principle was in Duplicate Whist by John T. Mitchell, inventor of the first pairs movement. Duplicate Auction Bridge began in 1914 under the auspices of the American Whist League.

Most bridge clubs and almost all tournaments play duplicate bridge.
