Term given to a partnership agreement about entering the bidding after an opponent’s pre-emptive three-level opening.
At one time it was common to play 3NT as for takeout and the next development was a variety of conventional takeout bids. It has now become almost universal to play double for takeout whether you are over or under the bid.
